Knitting pattern: Baby Socks "Peru"

Norsk her

Design: Lille Krokodille
Pattern: Lille Krokodille’s socks with ”classic” heel.  The couple is drawn off a Peruvian poncho.

Size: 0-3 months
Gauge: 34st x 42r in stockinette measure 10 x 10 cm
Needles: set of 5 DPN size 2.5 mm (European metric range = US size 1 or 2)
Yarn: You need yarn in 5 different colours (perfect for using yarn rests) that fits with the needles. I used DROPS Alpaca in goldenrod, rust mix, maroon mix, red/purple mix and green/turquoise mix.

Socks:
Cast on 44 stitches and divide evenly onto 4 needles.

Work K2 P2 ribbing for 7 cm. Use all the colours in stripes.
Here I knit 8 rounds of green, 4 yellow, 1 purple, 1 orange, 1 purple, 3 orange, 1 purple, 1 orange, 1 purple, 1 yellow, 3 red, 1 green, 4 red.
Knit one round with 4 decreases (spread evenly).
Heel:
Here the heel is all green, but of course you can make stripes too.
Divide the stitches for the heel:
Put 20 stitches on one needle (”heel”) and put the other 20 (”foot” = top) on a second needle or a piece of yarn.
Heelflap: Knit the heel stitches back and forth in stockinette (K one row, P one row) for 3.5 cm.
Heel cap:
Row 1: K until 7 stitches remain. K2tog. Turn.
Row 2: P until 7 stitches remain. P2tog. Turn.
Row 3: K until 6 stitches remain. K2tog. Turn.
Row 4: P until 6 stitches remain. P2tog. Turn.
Go on like this with one fewer stitch remaining in every K row until there are 8 stitches left on your needle.

Go back to knittting in the round: K over heel stitches, pick up 10 stitches on the side of the heelflap, put ”foot” stitches back on the needles (and knit these too) and pick up 10 stitches on the other side of the heel flap.
Put the “foot” stitches on two needles with 10 on each and the “heel” stitches on two needles with 14 stitches on each.
Keep knitting in the round:
Round 1: K2tog before ”foot” and SSK after “foot” stitches
Round 2: like round 1
Round 3: K whole round
Round 4: like round 1
Round 5: K whole round
Round 6: like round 1
Round 7: K whole round
Round 8: like round 1
Now you’re done with the heel and should have 20 ”foot” stitches and 18 left (from the heel) for the sole.
Knit one round in a different colour (here orange) and then knit the following pattern over the “foot” stitches. Start at the bottom (row 1).
Chart created using Chart Creator

Here, the background is yellow, shoes and hats purple, trousers/skirt  red, jumpers green and faces orange.
Knit the sole stiches in the sme colour you use in the “foot” pattern in the same round. You can for example K1 yellow, K1 in the other colour.
Here I knit as follows using yellow and the other colour in each round:
round 1: 1 other colour, 3 yellow, 1 oc, 3 y, 2 oc, 3 y, 1 oc, 3 y, 1 oc
round 2: 2 oc, 1 y, 3 oc, 1 y, 4 oc, 1 y, 3 oc, 1 y, 2 oc
Repeat rounds 1 and 2.

Decrease 6 in the last round of the pattern (only yellow).
Knit 4 more rounds (here green) and decrease 6 in each.
Cut the thread and pull it through the remaining 8 stitches.

Sew in threads on the inside.
